in honor of finishing a big project and begging for it night and day, i was surprised with this modern little duvet number on my bed courtesy of the boy.  he exerted his veto power by changing the color (from bright blue to a more muted grey) in exchange for permitting me to choose bright pillows it needs to punch it up a bit.

we already had this pillow made in a chevron pattern (they were MFEO, people) from fabric from our wedding as a wedding gift from our dear friend sarah.

but it wasn’t enough.  it needed more color.  something punchy.  something…foxy.

liam, the woodland fox, will be joining us here in the domicile.

because stuffed animals for grown-ups are the new stuffed animals for kids.

i’m pretty sure that catchphrase is going to sweep the nation shortly.

perhaps i shouldn’t quit my day job.

but my day job is writing.

hmmm.

i’ll be here with liam thinking of a better plan B.

also? pretty thankful i still have friends who are willing to be seen with me.

It’s “make do”, not “make due”.

If i have to “make do”, that means I will get by with whatever less than ideal materials i possess.

If i have to “make due”, I am literally making a requirement for something to be turned in to me, and this requires both an object that I am making due and a willingness to sound like Ainsley Hayes in the West Wing, as in”I need to make due these papers by Friday in order to have grades in”.

Got it?  Go forth and make do, and (for my fellow teacher friends) make due.  Do both.  Class dismissed.

we registered for gifts.   or, well, we registered for part of our gifts.  as it turns out, trying to figure out what you have, what you need, and what goes where with what and how…takes a lot of energy and more time than one evening.  but we are well on our way.

we got the design of our invitations finalized (after much delay from me who was a little busy to work on the copy) and ready to print/mail this week.

with the incredible generosity of my friends who came to my bridal shower, i also was able to buy a couple of things i had been needing for awhile as well as a few cute additions to the clothes i picked out for our engagement photos.

which were also this weekend.

we spent a windy (thankfully, it died down a little) and mostly sunny afternoon on saturday taking photos with our friend, and fantastic photographer, jannelle.  i’ve known jannelle forever, and liked her own personal style as well as her photography style for some time.  she composes pictures well, she edits well, and she’s generally a fantastic person overall.  but, i wondered if it would feel strange to get my picture taken for hours (not my idea of the best time ever), particularly by a friend?

nope.  nada.  nyet.  jannelle is really great at that too.  it more felt like we were on a fun adventure with cute outfits and happened to have someone taking some pictures of us along the way.  she has great ideas, is open and spontaneous to new locations and options, and will also help you move 30 reference books at the library to a new shelf in order to get a great shot.

or maybe that’s just if you happen to want your pictures done in a library, because you’re nerds.   i don’t know anything about that, really, but i bet if you were in a library and taking pictures, jannelle would haul heavy books, take a picture with your polaroid camera, take the cutest pictures you’d ever seen, and then edit them brilliantly.   because that’s just how she rolls.

you know, hypothetically speaking.

and yet, i still want to hang this up in my class.

as in, i would totally buy this, just so i could serve the french boyfriend a gin and titonic, and watch his expression when he laughed at me.

and rolled his eyes.

and shook his head.

and this is really, really nerdy.

and not in the way that all the popular beautiful celebrity-like people say how they are such “dorks” these days, or were “nerds” in high school.

no, i knew the nerds in high school.  and you, beautiful person, were not one of them.

no, i mean that this is actually, awfully nerdy.

the kind that makes me feel like that one girl in my lit class who talks; everyone cringes.

the same girl who wanted to dress up in a hawaiian shirt and give out candy for the focal point of her senior-level oral presentation on hunter s. thompson.  cringe.

yeah, like that.

liking this odd grammatical development reminds me of this cartoon that my delightful friend kinsey showed me ages and ages ago, when she was still as fantastic [and nimble, as it were] as she is today.  but sans amazing band.  this cartoon strip is created everyday, with the same exact images, but different words.

to this day, it is one of my favorite things.

we can certainly sexy.

back to school shopping was my favorite:  trapper keepers, books, organizers, highlighters, etc.  it turns out that despite being decently unorganized in practice, i actually love being organized and having organization stuff.

i swoon over binder clips, people.

official to-do list, as the yellow pad of paper gave way too much space to add things, and caused me to feel entirely overwhelmed.  much more bite-size now, thank you.
