my onscreen summer.
of course, my list of old movies to get through is quite extensive. i still refuse to give up the Great Oscar Watching Quest of 2009. but, we just haven’t been in the mood to watch the Godfather or slog through (my words, not the boys) Casablanca. we will pick up our screen torch once more, to be sure.
but.
new movies, in the theater, on an idle midweek afternoon, popcorn smelling, dark coziness, getting lost in stories…
it TRULY is one of my all-time favorite things. with people, alone; it always feels like a treat. and if you watch a mid-week matinee, it feels like you are playing hooky.
here is part of my summer movie anticipation (you know, after i see the star trek movie (!) next week.)
JUNE: Away We Go
oh, delight. from one of my favorite directors, and two of my favorite writers, with a whole slew of favorite actors. sure, that’s a lot to live up to. and, given the trailer, there is a chance it’s going to be a little…twee…you know, like how elizabethtown was not quite excellent?
but it has amazing potential.
JULY: 500 Days of Summer
aptly named, i feel. the imitable zooey deschanel, smiths references, and love stories. goes perfectly with the month of july, yes?
AUGUST: Julie and Julia
amy adams and meryl streep. blogging and french cuisine. nora ephron can direct no wrong. food, glorious food, and culinary legends. i am sneaking in baguettes and chocolate. and quite possibly some wine.
now, who wants to be my movie date?
omigoodness i can’t wait to see julie & julia. i was captivated by the trailer alone. i might beg to join you as i don’t believe anyone else in my family would be remotely interested.
also, trek? AMAZING. and i’m a rabid trekkie. just. AMAZING.
Ooh! Me! ME! I’ll be the date. I’ll provide the wine!
you girls are on. i’ll set the date, you bring the wine.
